And for you people who dont think screenshots are enough, we have a video demonstrating how the MCE can cope with ripping a DVD while playing back a pre-ripped movie. Of course the system responds more slowly, but you will note that there is no jittering during the movie playback!

It is skinnable, yes. As for the Xbox.. i dont know what type it was.. i didnt make the vids. I'll see if cykiller can answer.

Yes, stock xbox with a wd1600 7200rpm 8meg cache drive. Besides the drive everything is standard, you can get a performance increase if you upgrade the ide cable, also a memory upgrade will increase the smoothness but as you can tell once the video starts (while ripping) playback is smooth. And then finally the best type of system would be the bravo from friendtech which I am working on getting a side by side video made to show the performance increase.

any chance of a template to start skinning with?
also is knowledge of linux needed to skin?

yeah, ate up too much bandwidth, my webhost emailed me demanding them to be taken down and then sinister elf from xbox100 graciously hosted them but within 2 days accumulated over 30gigs in bandwidth but now the beta is out and everyone can try it out for themselves. I will have a complete guide up within the next 24 hrs as well.
