Is the magic server up and running again? I tried last night and got the error... will try again tonight but just wanted to check that everything is ok with magic and any probs will be my setup...
I can deffo connect to the net with konquerer browser, and ping yahoo.com etc, it was just magic that didnt work. Could it be anything in my settings if the internet works ok, or does it seem to be the server yesterday?

Right - I have got Magic working now... but on its first run it told me that I had not run emerge sync and ran that - and that failes with the below error...
Any ideas why emerge fails when my networkl seems to be working - magic can see the network and this email is sent from the xbox via konquerer browser?
Thanks for the help - I am getting there...

>>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...
rsync: failed to connect to rsync.gentoo.org: Connection timed out
Sync failed.
Check your network settings and try again.
Magic encountered the above error, please try again later.

configure.in:46: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.7.5,
configure.in:46: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.in:46: comes from Automake 1.7.9. You should recreate
configure.in:46: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.

Shallax - was that to me or Y?
I saw something on the gentoo forum about adding a line to the etc/make.conf file to select a server to connect to... is this worth a try?

Thanks again for your help - it is much appreciated.As a temporary fix for those who don't like waiting it out, you can add a line to /etc/make.conf:
Replace "jp" with the ISO two-letter country code of your choice. Don't forget to change back later.Code: Select all
SYNC="rsync://rsync.jp.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"

Sorry to keep posting, but can anyone offer a suggestion on how to get emerge sync working when I have internet connectivity, and magic goes through ok (apart from telling me to emerge sync)?
Would the 'solution' I mention above be something that should work or does it seem like some other problem?
Thanks for the continued help.
