Update portage (is this an error)

I've just updated portage and on finish i got
ERROR:sys-devel/m4-1.4.1 failed
Function src.compile, line 44, exitcode 2
(no error message)
Can one of you pro's explain this to me please

Allso i believe i'm supposed to run ect-update.I get the following when i run this
"scanning configeration files
exiting:nothing left to do

But my xbox has doing something for the last 4 hours so what is going on here.

for the compile error, make sure your clock is set, also when you post the error it helps to post starting around 20 lines before the ones you posted, to see if that offers any clues. If you run etc-update and it says nothing left to do then there aren't any config files waiting to be updated.

Thanks Nobspangle. I'm trying to follow the tutorials the best i can. I'm not having much luck as it's so complicated. But i know more this week than i did last week and i'll know more next week than i'll know this week.
