I can not login as root

Post by jakin »

After running magic, I can not get to root. even during boot, When startinx, I hit Ctrl +Alt + F1-F6 and get into text mode.

I type in su root. get error "Login incorrect"

If I login as gentoox password: id displayed and I type in xbox .

the prompt is green gentoox@Xbox blue gentoox $ IO get in but not as root.

Then I try "su" password : root "Authentican failure".

In putty su@192.168.1.103 's password: green prompt...When I type su

nothing is typed in the putty window.

All this happened after xvbset automatically started when I used "tokde"

why has no one

answered my questions here or on irc where i see shallax?

I have followed everyone's instructions, and my linux is dead.

in gui I can not get past the login and pw.

when you get to a text console by ctrl alt f1-6 it is ready for you to type a login name. Root's user name isn't "su root" but simply "root".
"su" is just a program that logs you in as a different user in a shell, while keeping everything else logged in as you already were. When you switch to the text console you want to type:
root [enter]
root_password (or whatever your root password is) [enter]
