emerge failure error when I run magic

Post by jakin »

Why are the causes of this error?

I tried running magic after a full removal and reinstall to E:

and I get emerge failure.

Is the server having problems?

Is this the reason?

Why does emerging consistently fail?
Your clock MUST be set CORRECTLY. To do this, run the following command as root:

date MMDDhhmmYYYY

For example, for Jan 24th 2004 10:38pm:

date 012422382004 01 24 2238 2004

emerge failure is not the error you got
post the command you tried to run and the proper error and people might be able to help you

In KDE I logout to get to fullscreen terminal .

login as root, type magic > patch serial 20040584914 wyget -T 30 -t 5

press to continue.

"Do you want to emerge sync? > yes

"Do you want XFCE4 > YES

PERFORMING GLOBAL UPDATES

deleting alot of files

wrote 5080 bytes read 1963898 bytes 14639.24 bytes per sec

updating portage cache ...

The letters are so small I have a difficult time reading them

(had eye surgery)

updating portage cach done

performing global updates

emerge failed. (real difficult to read)

Emerge/unmerg errors are problems with the portage.

Please try resyncing or waiting before running magic again

Download errors are most likely to be Gentoox central server/ DNS errors

and should be fixed almost immediately.

I have received this error 3 times after I ran magic the first time.

I have discovered ,If I run magic 2 times

,TUX goes from black and white to color and my tv screen is sized better.

is there a command line to make the letters a little bigger?

I waited a day to run magic this time. Thank You

Performing global updates; /usr/portage/profiles/updates/1Q-2004
(could be a couple of minutes if you have a lot of binary packages.)

................portage Update type "slotmove" not recognized

On your windows PC
download putty from here

run the putty.exe

In the hostname box type the ip address of your xbox, change the protocol to ssh click open, accept the fingerprint.

login as root and type
emerge sync

When it finishes, (should take about 10-15 minutes) if it gives you an error copy everything from "updating portage cach done" and paste it here. You can copy out of the putty window by selecting the text with your mouse. Anything selected is automatically copied to the windows clipboard.

If it doesn't give you an error then you are fixed.

in putty the sync had no error's magic ran all day. When I get this sorted out . I want to eliminate the login & PW.

Im getting a popup after I login as gentoo or root that says Session menu . the only option which I can choose is Default/Fail Safe. The last thing I did was tell it to go tokde.

xbvset started every choice fails. I can not go tokde. in putty toxfce

starts XVBSET and around & around I go. Please help.

now putty does not work timed out.
