Getting a regular PC to do the compile?

Post by TMLPiper »

Is it possible to get a regular PC involved for the actual backend compile work during an emerge? Keeping your gentoox install up to date is torture as it is now, and I was thinking that putting my PC (regular Gentoo box) to work would help a lot. Would a cross compiler be necessary? This would certainly cheer some people up about the unbearable emerge -u world update times.

have a look at distcc, there is a guide on the gentoo site.

Thanks nobspangle. Not too long after I asked this I found out about distcc. I haven't tried it with a Gentoox compile yet, but I've played with it a bit and it works pretty well.
