Networking probs

Post by lowsodium »

I followed the tut for setting dhcp and I also tried a static IP. No matter what I try, when Linux boots back up it states eth0 IP of 127.0.0.1
My Xenium obtains a DHCP address no problem and so does Evox. I am stuck here and can not magic.

my /etc/conf.d/net only states this:
iface_eth0="dhcp"

any ideas?

Thanks.

eth0 can't have an IP of 127.0.0.1, that's reserved for the loopback interface lo

have a look at ifconfig to see how to set an IP address manually

I set the IP statically also and no go. I looked closely upon booting and saw defice not found for eth0. So, I reinstalled everything from cd this time instead of ftp. the cd install cleaned up my IDE error 10 and can't find first sector as well as reactivating my nic.

Thanks for the reply.
