hard to get excited about MCE when...

...the beta won't support xenium or loopback drives.

Let me know when they add non-direct-flashable bios support
and alternatives to the native 'f' install. If a native drive is required,
I really hope they'll add 'g' drive support...

in theory you could probably take a 256k cheapmod or aladdin and do the installation, then when MC is installed you could take off the 256chip, install the xenium, boot to whatever dashboard you use, hotswap the xenium for the 256k chip, back it up then take the bios image you just backed up and flash it to one of your free banks on the xenium.

But like I said it's a theory.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's too much work.
Sounds like the next Beta will have non flashable support
in it anyway. But still no support for 'G' drive...

no unforualy it formats the entire drive to F:, but I wonder what would happend if you after an install boted with an hacked bios and formated G: with EvolutionX. I would have tried this today but unforualy I dont have any other chip than SmartXX att home for the moment.

... You would have to be an idiot to even think that would work, basically.

Linux wont see G, and G wont see linux, so they'll eventually overwrite each other.

256k

I would be nice to be able to get a 512k version of the BIOS since that is all that the X2 Lite v2.3 chips take

Why don't you tell people how then just say do it. Lots of people don't know how to. I don't, unless it is the X2 or Evox one using the XBTools. The XBTools doesn't work on that BIOS though.

or under windows you should be able to just copy the file twice
copy bios.bin+bios.bin 512k.bin
but I just tried it and it didn't work (that's windows for you)

So under Windows I recommed either use the xecuter bios manager (works fine for me) or install cygwin (always useful anyway) and do it with cat as Shallax described.

You need to specify the binary option.

copy /b bios.bin+bios.bin 512k.bin

Ok, I'm a total sucker when it comes to bios flashing so...

1. Doesn't the SmartXX support 256Kb bioses in the low 2mb (according to xbox-scene)?
2. If not, could one double the bios up as posted here and make it run on a SmartXX?

...or where is the actual problem?

Thanks.

problem is that the installer just exits if it can't flash the bios, and raincoat can't flash the smartXX.
Although the Xecutor lite doesn't support 256k bios raincoat thinks it has flashed the chip, and carrys on installing, you can then flash the chip later.
