I don't know how to log in as superuser through a shell script, but it is probably possible. If so, that's your solution.

I don't know about Windows, but I know about editors. Back in the day, there were two console-based editors out there: Emacs and vi. Emacs, over the past 30 some years, has become bloated and has way too many features (comparable to those of an operating system), while vi has stayed lean and mean. M...

emerge -u world -- compile time?

Don't diss me, I searched first.

Anyways, I made (yet another) fresh install of Gentoox Home 2.1, and ran emerge -u world. It has been compiling for about 30 hours now: how much longer can I expect it to be compiling?

EDIT: emerge -u world has been running for about 40 hours now, and still no luck.

Yeah, and what do you use? Emacs? When it comes to console editors, it is pretty limited as to your options: pico, vi, ecraps.

See my sig.

Any luck :?:

PS: I meant the root of E:, not the root of your linux fs.

EDIT: Make sure that /all/ necessary files are there. Sometimes, they just get baleeted.

EMACS is not an editor, but a religion... :P

I think that drerock means installing Windows 98 overtop VMWare running on Linux, or something like that.

It looks like you are using KDE. I suggest changing to XFCE4. It is faster, and still very good. To do that, type "magic xfce" as root. Takes a few hours to compile, but it's worth it.

Make SURE the file "linuxboot.cfg" (or something like that, but it is "linuxboot" and it is lowercase) is in your root. I (once) had that problem while updating kernels.
