This is EXACTLY what happened to me, and it's apparent that it can happen. Not sure why yet at this point.

Based on the instructions you listed, you will need to cd into the directory containing the plugin. Then type:

chmod a+rx Install-crossover-plugin-1.1.0.sh
./Install-crossover-plugin-1.1.0.sh

at one point I had a cheap smc router that supported dial-up modems. This model is a little hard to find but still available. You connect to the router via ethernet, then it connects to internet via 56k.

Caution: upgrade to 2.4.22 didn't work

I just did the upgrade following the instructions and when I rebooted, and went into linux, the xbox made a loud fan noise, then shut itself off. So, if you are expecting this upgrade to work like 'magic'.... I would only recommend doing it if you need to, and if you have a restore plan in place. VG...

it took me a long time to get it to work, but once i figured out how to add a usb drive, it was as fast as could be expected with usb 1.1. I did some kernel stuff to get it working, but it was with the stock home 2.1 kernel source.

Firebird and Thunderbird instead of Mozilla. They are better because they do the same thing, yet consume less memory and load/run faster by excluding some extra features such as HTML editing and IRC.

2.4.22 New Features

What benefit is there to upgrade to the 2.4.22?
What will this offer that the current kernel does not?

I heard that it can automatically detect the video type, i.e. VGA or composite, etc. Does this require more configuration?

TIA.

mounting the disk is not the problem, sorry if I did not make that clear. The issue is with PLAYing the media file (mpg, dat, etc). Mplayer is not able to do it.

Any ideas?

svcd playback

not sure if it's just the svcd tested with, but mplayer can't play it. I tried putting some more codecs into /usr/lib/win32 but this seemed to make no difference. Any ideas for how to play svcd? I haven't tried xine yet.

i didn't feel like manually swapping kernels out via ftp, etc, so instead i copied of gentooxx.xbe and linuxboot.cfg, to gentooxv.xbe and linuxboov.cfg. I edited linuxboov.cfg to boot the alternate vga kernel I named vmlinuz_vga. I patched gentooxv.xbe to read linuxboov.cfg. This approach allows sel...
