Check your config to make sure you selected "X86_XBOX".
Re: Gentoox
Weird... maybe try Linux or Windows to burn it... or Roxio Toast on the Mac.
Re: Gentoox
What is a ".Boz" file and a ".ipo"? I assume you mean ".tbz2" and ".iso". Windows can deal with both of these file types (WinRAR handles .tbz2 files elegantly). Define the problem you're having with burning. Just saying "burning wasn't successful" is...

Re: Web- and Net-Boot Problems
Web-boot tries to connect to an HTTP server (not an SMB share). I suggest you try pinging 192.168.1.13 from your PC, if it pings... then your Xbox is alive and on the same subnet, if it doesn't then something is wrong! Net-boot is the easiest method to use, but if you cant get network connectivity, ...

Re: Recompiling the kernel? (NFS support, etc) - .config?
2.6 doesnt have FatX support, which is why it's not bundled. You should have a /usr/src/linux pre-populated with the distro, just compile that (the .config should be the one that was used to compile the shipped kernel).

Good question... fancy being a guinea pig?
... I always thought FatX 32 worked fine...
