Resctoox intentionally does not use DHCP as this has been known to lock up people's systems where the clock is not set.

This is normal, basically its so that if you have a separate boot partition, you can still reference "/boot/kernel". It means that no matter how your partition layout is configured, your kernel will always be available from "/boot/kernel".

I'm not going to make any guarantees on how safe it is... all I know is I ran mine with fanctl running on defaults and it stayed mostly at 20-40%

2.6 wont run properly with FatX... your best bet is to install GCC3, I'm afraid (it'll take about 2-3 hours).

Please, for my sanity, don't insert your own line-breaks! You'll have to describe _exactly_ what part of the HOWTO fails and exactly how it fails. Also please say exactly where you FTP'ed the files to.

Sync banning is nothing to do with me... thats down to Gentoo's mirrors. You also have no reason to run magic on Gentoox Home v6.2 as no updates have been released... though it will probably say that Xserver has been updated when really, it hasnt ;)

Instead of just trying again, I suggest you download Home v6.2 :)

FYI, running magic doesn't give you Home v6.2. What you need to do is rerun magic now and say "yes" to syncing and "yes" to xorg.

Xbox partitions are implicit, as such there is no MSDOS partition table. As for the reiserfs issue, it seems like its mounted readwrite. It is probably just saying that it is mounted read only on boot so it will skip the journal replay.

I don't think I'm going to try fixing the ReiserFS issue. Its a fairly poor choice for a filesystem anyway.

If you want native support, you'll have to go with Ext3.
