What I see is the temperature of both CPU and MB in my UnleashX-dashboard. Yes, that is where I've seen them too. Of course, if v1.6 boxes truly don't have temperature sensors (and I've read in more that one place that they don't), perhaps temps are being estimated? On the other hand perhaps you ar...

I think some dashboards report temperatures for

1) Motherboard
2) CPU
3) Hard disks

Of course, not all HD's have temperature sensing abilities.

Not sure whether a v1.6 xbox can do 3), but perhaps that's what you've seen?

look inside initrd.gz

Yes it would be nice to know exactly how to recreate initrd.gz etc Unfortunately I don't. Of course you can take a peek inside, and that may help... its as far as I have got on the subject. As root: cd mkdir unpack cd unpack cp /mnt/fatx/e/initrd.gz . gunzip initrd.gz mkdir mnt_initrd losetup /dev/l...

cheesyboofs said but Shallax isn't really interested in native installs. As to native versions, I'm not running native (perhaps in the future, but would need a bigger HD). Just a stock 'E' install. So thats not an issue for me. orochi said i dont think you can fcsk anything thats mounted As to fscki...

I just reinstalled Home 4.0. So I now have the original gdm [2.6.0.7], and xorg-x11 [6.8.2-r1] back. The VNC problem still exists [expected], but doesn't happen every time you quite xfce. Also the workaround (ie /etc/init.d/xdm restart) works too. Thankfully!! So I'd suggest commenting out the lines...

I said: I'm thinking of reinstalling from CD, but am wondering if it is possible to backup the portage tree beforehand, and restore to a new install. The answer is a resounding yes! Why do this? Well by the time I was ready to reinstall from CD, my portage tree (ie /usr/portage) was over 500Mb in si...

I'm no expert, but... Power surges can do nasty things to hardware. Almost anything could be wrong. a) H/w OK? Does your Xbox still work correctly it was originally intented ie. as a games machine? If so, your original hardware is probably Ok. Did you install a new dashboard/bios with your Smart XX ...

Hi, I think I've run into a similar problem when logging out, but using VNC. See http://forums.shallax.com/viewtopic.php?t=3108 One of the things I was un-aware until yesterday was that the main display was also borked when VNC was borked (I run this box headless). I noticed in my situation that xdm...

Is it possible to backup & restore your portage tree?

Hi, My Home 4.0 install needs a cleanup. I think emerging gdm & xorg-x11 [to latest versions] have left rubbish lying around. :( I'm thinking of reinstalling from CD, but am wondering if it is possible to backup the portage tree beforehand, and restore to a new install. Why? Well the initial 'em...

Hmm... Emerging Xorg-X11 to latest release (6.8.2r2) doesn't help. This may or may not be important. Experimenting today reveals that perhaps the problem has nothing to do with starting/stopping gdm. It may be that there's a VNC/X session problem. Read on for a slightly better description of the issue... Firstly, let me say that a freshly booted box and first Xlogin are absolutely fine. However, if...

Ok, yet more info: Emerging Xorg-X11 to latest release (6.8.2r2) doesn't help. Updating /usr/lib/modules/vnc.so* to version 4.3.0.999 doesn't help either. I'm grasping at straws here, I don't even know if I can upgrade just this .so file by itself ?!? [vnc.so was previously at version 4.3.0.104 - ve...
