I'd love to know the answer too! I've got a copy of the unpatched kernal source saved locally, ready to put somewhere, but every time I run Magic it wants to re-download a fresh 30Mb of source.... grrr!

Changing from Static IP to DHCP without rebooting

Hi, This is not a problem, but rather a mini-hint for other newbies like myself. If you've accidentally started Gentoox without a network connection, then it defaults to 192.168.1.13. Assuming you can login via the console (USB keyboard), then you might want to change your IP address to one issued b...

Sorry for assuming you were American No problem, but I felt compelled to correct you! ;-) As to trying "mac-us" -- that is much worse. So for now, I'll live with KEYMAP = "us". Do you have any pointers to documentation on this setting (or other potentially relevant info). I migh...

you crazy Americans, with your keys in the wrong place. Umm.... you're partly right. The keyboard was made in Malaysia for Apple Computers of California. I, on the other hand, was made here in NZ -- Down under, down under [if that makes sense ;-)] Changing KEYMAP="uk" to KEYMAP="us&q...

Weirdness with USB keyboard - some shifted keys don't work?

Hi, I am having trouble with a new USB keyboard, with Gentoox Pro 1.1. In the past I was logging in via ssh, so this wasn't an issue. However there are times when logging in with a keyboard is what you want (eg when you have network issues). So what's my beef? Well certain keys are mapped to the wro...

Excellent HOWTO, nobspangle! :D I'd like to share my experience with this. I started with a near vanilla pro 1.1 install. Before starting this HOWTO, I had run "magic" to get all patches, except XFree (and things that need XFree). After all updates were done (including a kernel rebuild, an...

Cool.

"Pheonix bootloader Audio Hack" --> That wouldn't be Mordens_Audio_hack_007_V2 would it? If so, I would use the MechAssult version, since I have MA....

Stardust: What install options are there?

I'm thinking of using Stardust as an installer, but can seem to find info on what options it might give. Because I'm on a limited download limit, I probably would choose to install something like the "Pro" distro first. I assume that I can then use "magic" to get exactly what I w...

Installing GentooX on an unmodded Xbox

Hi, Can anyone tell me whether GentooX can be installed on an unmodded Xbox? My plan is to use the MechAssult Installer [http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/] to get a linux installed on an ummodded Xbox, then replace with a full distro, and I like the look of Gentoo.... Will Stardust work as an insta...
