Since I recompiled the kernel the sound doesn't work, I get an error along the lines of 'cannot open device'. Is there a specific parameter I need to set on the menuconfig to enable the sound?

I've installed the latest gentoox and have found some things needlessly complicated. Adding a new user for example. adduser? No such command, it's just a link to useradd which is a non-interactive command line version. If you have this problem, try superadduser instead. Just be sure to add yourself ...
