There must by SOMEONE who knows the answer to this, or how to diagnose what is going wrong. And yes, i have googled extensively....And no, i can't post any URL's which come close to the answer
Hey you do visit your forums! Can you spare some time to answer my xbox specific questions? Such as: 1. What .config do you use to compile the kernel? (I need to compile extra modules for stuff like nfs) 2. Where has the xbv tool (used to set xbox video encoder chip on the fly) gone? (I got it from ...
*bump* Am i REALLY the only person who wants to multi-boot several linux images from inside fatx filesystems (i.e. maintaining xbox functionality)....????? If only someone would tell me how custom kernel parameters work & where in the initrd i can implement the desired behaviour i would do it myself...
Well, now i know what you mean by DVD Reader, that makes more sense! I do not know if you can read encrypted game dvd's in Linux, but for Video DVD's you will need to use libdvdcss to decrypt them for playback by VLC. Can't remember the last time i did that, but installing it shouldn't be different ...
I don't use UnleashX (i'm an XBMC fan), but i would guess you need to put the loader xbe inside a folder inside apps - e.g. E:\Apps\GentooX\Loader.xbe, and the rest of the folders elsewhere...Or you could use XBMC
Gentoo doesn't have sudo (which allows a normal user to obtain root privileges temporarily through the use of their password) enabled by default. You can use 'su' instead to become the root user - the password for this by default is 'xbox'. As for a DVD player, i dunno what is installed by default b...
Well, I think the point of partitioning is so that he can use space that he is not using (for FatX) for a NATIVE linux filesystem, NOT an Image living in the 'E' or 'F' drive. I posted a similar question to this in the newbie forum, but seeing as i can't post URL's in here i can't point you to it :e...
Right i shall try VERY hard not to post URL's in this thread... I usually keep my distfiles on another machine and access them over nfs, as i have several boxes running gentoo. But there is no NFS module in the kernel. Is there a "GentooX" way of compiling new modules, or should i just grab the sour...
I'll calm down when this board lets me post properly! It's really hard to show examples of other people in similar situations or trying to achieve similar goals, when you can't even post links to their pages or posts on this or other forums....ARRRRRGH! I don't care about hosing my xbox - i have ple...
Which is difficult NOT to do if you are trying to show someone examples of how someone else has made something work, or someone having a similar problem.
I cannot post URLs here unfortunately (GRRRRRRR!), but if you got to the xbox-scene forums, and look for topic 418428 it might help you. Seems to be a fairly good explanation of how linux works with the video hardware. Unfortunately, as you are on a 1.6, you might be SOL. Sounds like you need to mes...
I'm trying to ask a complicated question about screen modes, and in particular why i can't locate the "xbv" tool. For now, i'll have to keep it in a text file until whatever is forbidding me asking it gets changed. I'm starting to think that you are welcome to ask basic questions, but if it's someth...
Well, as regards the first question, as long as GentooX has usb mass storage support, the following *should* work: Plug the stick in, then use lsusb to check it has been recognized, then type in "dmesg". One of the most recent lines should tell you the device name the stick has been given by the ker...
