You do realize that h264(or x264, whatever you want to call it) is a very beefy codec and is often used for high def content which a 733Mhz machine with 64Mb of RAM is going to choke and die on? Old post but as I'm looking for a good home media center as well I thought I'd update the list a bit. XBMC (as of recent builds) Uses Mplayer so supports pretty much every format MythTV does Plays CD/DVDs/Karoake (plus Xbox games) And now there are a few things ShallaX mentioned that it can address....

Sorry, didn't mean to bring up something that shouldn't be discussed, although technically XBMC isn't illegal unless you are downloading a compiled binary, they only distribute the source so if you don't have access to the XDK and you download a binary its your responsibility not theirs. plewright: as I understand it, magic is ShallaX's custom built updater for Gentoox, that being said it includes specific use flags for the Xbox that restrict the packages to certain use flags and so running it on a PC with HT shouldn't affect it. If you are dealing with a stock Xbox then I would heartily recommend using XBMC with the MythTV script as that works well according to another user here on the forums. Also doesn't require any crazy configuration and allows you to still use your games for xbox and do other stuff like emulators, musi...
