Re: Does anyone know of a UK 128mb upgrade service?
Maybe so, but by the time you pay for the linux box and take the time to mod it so you can put linux on it, you realize that instead of the $100 you paid for the modded xbox, you could have paid $200 and bought a PC that does way more way faster =)

Re: Does anyone know of a UK 128mb upgrade service?
If you want to ship it to the west coast of Canada and back, I'd be happy to do it. Doubt it's worth your while, though =)

Re: heres a good one
I ended up making my own PC. Was <$300 and has a low-profile desktop case. Case size is only 3.6" x 12.2" x 15.7" $69 - Athlon64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz AM2 1000FSB (65W) $60 - Asus M2N-MX SE Plus AM2+ DDR2 mATX A/V/L $36 - Kingston 2GB DDR2-800 $60 - In-Win BT610 Slim Tower/Desktop 300W $55 ...

Re: heres a good one
I used to run my XBox as a server and didn't even have xfce on it at all. It ran bind, apache, glftpd, sshd, samba, postfix, dhcpd, mysqld, and probably a few other services I can't remember and still had no problems downloading from newsgroups with nzbget and some torrents with rtorrent. It's got 1...

Re: Noob Questions.
Ok, I thought I pretty much addressed your questions, but if it was a useless reply, what was I not clear on... If you're trying to install something on an XBox 360, you're in the wrong place. This is for original XBox, not XBox 360. If you want to install something on XBox 360, you'll have to searc...

Re: Noob Questions.
For starters, I think you're a little confused on what GentooX is targetted for. This isn't designed to run on PC, it's designed to run on your XBox. Not XBox360, plain old XBox. Given that, #2 is a yes, but #6 is something you'll have to look for elsewhere and I assume #3 can't even connect to an X...

Re: Magic times out
Probably just a server timeout. Think it's ShALLaX's home server that runs the magic repository unless he's moved it elsewhere.

Virtual brick wall. There's not really any bricks, but your head still hurts when you smash it against it =)

Re: magic and gdm xorg
Something like "rc-update del xdm" should work if I recall. Been awhile =) After you magic, it's possible that it might get re-added, but you can always remove it again. Just go through your /etc/init.d directory and make sure that any services that you don't want such as xdm aren't showin...

Re: Install on a PC?
"install gentoox through apt-get". That's kinda like saying "is there a way to install linux through windows... GentooX MCE isn't an application or suite of applications. It's an entire OS that has some media-related stuff pre-installed for you (such as mythtv, samba, etc). As such, y...

Can you split the command in two.
mkdir /mnt/loopback
<ls that dir and verify that it exists>
mount -o loop /mnt/hda2/rootfs /mnt/loopback
?

Re: Install troubles
Glad it's working for you even if it's not Gentoo =/ I used to run your config, but after awhile I replaced the backend server with a PC. The Xbox is a nice little unit if you want to conserve space and be cheap, but it doesn't perform incredibly well as a server. I could grab things (cable modem co...

Re: Cromwell bios will not load
The size of the original bios file and the new file you're trying to load are the same, I assume? If so, then I'm not sure. I've never seen that problem before and I've used 1MB and 256k bios chips and raincoat does a good job of detecting what the size is and flashing it multiple times if needed...

Re: Install using new larger HD on fresh XBOX?
The FTP install should be pretty much the same with pro or home. The difference being that the distro you unpack will be larger in home. It's still pretty much the same thing, though.

Re: Hi there... Time to put linux on my xbox....
You can do a soft install and, though I've never done it and don't know the details, I believe you can just launch it from whatever dashboard you use. You can pretty much do anything with it that you could normally do with any other linux installation. The only caveat is that the display isn't parti...
