I want GDM to display all textes in German when booting the first time. Actually this works only when I kill and restart GDM. I searched a few forums and used Google for a while and I found out, that I have to add the line "LANG=de_DE@euro" to /etc/init.d/gdm. ...Yes I know, this is pretty...

Problem editing /etc/init.d/gdm

Hello!! I need to open /etc/init.d/gdm with an editor to make a few changes in it. However no matter which editor I try, the content is always messed up or not displayed at all. Do I have to use a special editor or install some missing fonts?? http://home.arcor.de/philipp.reichel/Sonstiges/pico-scre...

OK, found it by myself. If there are others who want to remove xvkbd from the loginscreen:

Open /etc/x11/gdm/init/Default with an editor as root and uncomment the following lines as I did:

# if [ -f /usr/bin/X11/xvkbd ]; then
# /usr/bin/X11/xvkbd -geometry 620x130+0-0 -no-keypad &

I created a .gtkrc-2.0 file in my home directory containing something like this:

Code: Select all

gtk-font-name = "helvetica medium 14"
This might effect other programs as well, for example I use rox as my filemanager and there the fonts became bigger with this as well :)

Problem with Alsa and Headset

Hello!! I got a Logitech USB 20 Headset for Skype. It is working fine under Gentoox, but only when I update Alsa via "emerge alsa". Seems that te module snd-usb-audio is needed, which is missing with Alsa installed via magic. However when I emerge Alsa, loading the module snd-intel8x0 fail...

Hello!!

No problems with the modules and I created the folder /mnt/camera.

But when I try to mount it with "mount /dev/sda /mnt/camera" I get an error message that /dev/sda does not exist in.
What did I forget??

Greetings
