missing profile to use 'emerge'

Post by mauce »

Hi,

I installed gentoox on my xbox.
However, I'm not new to linux but I am new to gentoox.
The first thing I wanted to do is to install vi using emerge.
But when I do 'emerge vi' or 'emerge world' or 'emerge system' (as root) it complains I don't have a profile to perform emerge.

How do I create a profile to use emerge?
I searched these forums but could not find an answer to this issue.
I used the FTP-installation procedure.

Thanks in advance

Your profile is stored in /etc/make.profile
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

Yes I know, but as far as I know it's not just a matter of creating a profile manually in there or thwether it should be generated using the emerge command.

In case it should be done manually then please give me an example of a working profile.

Thanks in advance.
