Two questions on window managers

Post by dburr »

1. I recently (finally!) managed to successfully install GentooX on my Xbox (I'm not quite sure what I did differently this time to get it to work, but hey, I'm not complaining!). When I installed, it gave me the choice of window managers, xfce (sp?) or KDE. I chose KDE. However, when I log in through the X-console, KDE does NOT start up - instead I get some strange message about GNOME running in "safe mode" (or something to that effect) and all it does is open one xterm (terminal window). I checked and the KDE packages *do* appear to be installed correctly. How can I fix this?

2. If I wanted to switch to the xfce window manager later, how would I do this? Is there a command I can run on a running GentooX system to select and configure the default windowing system?

Thanks!
