Ooops: emerge system

Post by TheClassic » Wed Aug 11, 2004 8:04 pm

I am a linux noob. Gentoox won't boot for me now. At first it stopped and said something about a boot device and that management had to be done (enter password for root (obviously impossible) or ctrl-d for normal boot. Then I put the gentoox/stardust cd in and it stalls at "Activating (possible) swap. What was my mistake: running "emerge system" or "etc-update" afterwards? Any advice?

I think I'll get some practice with linux by installing a distro on my pc.

most likely the etc-update. EXACTLY the same thing happened to me when I first insalled gentoox. Make sure you DO NOT update anything listed at:
