Myth TV video over SMB
Is it possible to stream video from a PC similar to what XBMC does or do you have to install the media on the Xbox hard drive? Thanks for the help.
The media can be local or on another machine shared with samba or NFS.
The setup which worked well for me was an old 350 MHZ box with two PVR 150 tuner cards. These have hardware mpeg encoding and did not require a powerful CPU. I ran mythtvbackend on the PC and shared the drives with NFS. I ran myth-frontend on the XBOX. Works great. I found a XBOX DVD/remote kit on EBAY for $5.
Good Luck..

Thanks for the help, is it possible to run the backend on my main PC in the house, I have some big hard drives in there and would like to use them for storage, that's what I did with XBMC. Can I install the backend in windows, or is it linux only. Some more help on this would be appreciated.
Is there a way to just access media files with samba stored on a hard disk without installing the backend.

Could you give me a little help with how to do that. Also, I copied some Divx avi files over to the Xbox hard disk and Myth TV couldn't play them. So I'm assuming even if i could get access to my files over the network, it wouldn't be able to play them anyway. Or is there a way? I'm starting to think XBMC is my only option.

i dont remember if smbmount is built in by default, i run pro install and never tried, but if your setup has smb, it should have smbmount i guess
