Hi everybody,
i am using XBOX v1.6b production and used it for about 5 months with debian and fedora. I dislike both distributions because of the masses of errors in it, also the support is poor.
I now changed to GentooX, flashed the chip with 6.01 loader and did webupdate to get the latest bios (was 6.01 ).
Q: Am i now ready to download the GentooX pro edition (i admire cmdline only), and install it the way im used to install every other system ?
Q: Does GX fully support my XBOX v1.6b version, because xebian and xfedora did not fully support it and my system hangs up every 12 hours (or around) with a lot of numbers on my screen, or it just screws up the system and all data is lost ?
Thank you for support

// addition
Q: I formatted whole HDD, does GentooX support using whole Harddrive (10 GB) for Linux only ?
Thanks
XBOX 10 GIG INSTALLATION
I dont think any distro supports v1.6b properly. Your best bet for this is booting from Loader.xbe rather than using Loader.bin. To do this, you cannot use the full drive - youll need to do an E installation.
If you still insist on doing a fully native installation, this is your only choice: viewtopic.php?t=3092

Gentoox Intstall on 10gig Hdd
Hello,
I agree with you in relation of the other versions of the linux. I agree and can say that Shallax version of gentoox is the most complete and stable version of the OS that we can use on the console.
Another option for installation of the OS on a Stock 10G hdd is running it on top of FATX with out the need to reformat and partition the HDD.
Using the loader is a fantastic option for those who still wish to retain the original functionality of the system for either alternate applications such as XBMC.
I used my system before with a 10G hdd and that is what I found to be most versitile. It just depends on the specific functionality that you want.
Using the Xbox as a linux system can be as simple as the old windows program on top of dos in comparison.
Obviously I would think that using a linux filesystem directly would be better if your specific requirements would not require the additional functionality of other FATX based apps. I think it might be a little faster as well, prehaps Shallax could clarify the differences.

Go fully native, it's the destiny of all Mk1 Xboxes

I suppose you could just use an E install, and format that last partition and mount it to something in your current system to make it usable, but meh, 2 gigs is 2 gigsAwsome45 wrote:yes, I'd like to know about installing onto the extra 2 gigs of a stock 10 gig hdd. Does GentooX have an option for this? What will I have to do for this option without killing my current dashboard.
