Can't switch gentoox to F

Post by XboxMan »

I've tried lots of times to move gentoox from E to F on my 250GB hard drive but have always failed. I have tried using resctoox and getting it through FTP. It always gives me an error (forgot exactly what it said) after it says "this will take about 60minutes."

Can anyone help me get gentoox working on my F.

EDIT: You may not be able to, i found this in the FAQ:

http://gentoox.shallax.com/modules.php? ... ral+FAQ#64

I have a drive bigger than 137GB, can I install Gentoox?

Yes, but ONLY to the E: drive or Native... F: WILL NOT WORK!

Thanks for the quick reply. Though I am using a 300 I am storing Linux on my E: Drive with plenty of room to spare.

It just stops during load and reports that it can't find a particular directory.

Did you ever get it working?

I have the same problem as Xboxman & Cayotic.

I have a xbox with 250 gb hd (Maxtor-Ultra) softmodded (Kraysie's Nudure) 1.6 Xbox-everything is working fine and has been for several months-read all of the posts extensively before I installed (FTP install) Gentoox to E: after backing up & moving files to PC hd to ensure sufficient space.

Gentoox is an absolutely awesome program & I have no problems with it at all-been running it now for 1 & 1/2 weeks now. However, as many of have done-wanted to move Gentoox to F drive. Have debian on another xbox & it is nothing compared to Gentoox.

Downloaded resctoox and copied and changed initrd.gz & vmlinux files and edited the linuxboot.cfg file in E: as per post of ShaLLaX and the many other posts.

Resctoox booted fine-after typing the required command message to move gentoox from E: to F:

Received the following screen messages:

moving over files to F:
This will take about 60 minutes
nv:unable to open /mnt/fatx/f/swap: Read Only file system
nv:unable to open/mnt/fatx/f/rootfs: Read Only file system
All done
Resctoox:
(Prompt)
After sitting for 30 mintes-decided to reboot.
Rebooted. Resctoox booted again-tried running resctoox again-got message:
Script can't be run as current boot partition is F:
Fatx error
File system set read only

Removed the renamed files in E: and rebooted and attempted to start Gentoox from the dashboard as I had for several weeks before-partially loads and ends with the same error message as xboxman:

/linuxre:cannot open dev/console:no such file or directory
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

Now Gentoox will not load at all.

Suggestions?
I would like to know if xboxman or cayotic ever got Gentoox moved from E: to F: using resctoox?
The 250 hd is brand new-should I try a native install to F: I have only games backed up from original discs on F: and would have to backup to a PC as the native install would format this drive. G: (108,000 gb's) is empty-I think that I read that someone did a native install on a G: drive.
Sorry this is my first post as a newbie-to linux-generally I can find the answers without asking for help-I had followed xboxman's posts and was surprised to end up with the same problems.
Thank-you

You're moving it improperly. Your install is looking for the files on the rootfs that is no longer where it should be.

Move all your files back to where Gentoox installed them and then...

? I cant get Gentoox onto my F drive, what do I need to do
Download Resctoox, boot it... then run "sh /bin/f-drive" and follow the instructions!

? Hmm, I want Gentoox back on E drive...
Download Resctoox, boot it... then run "sh /bin/e-drive" and follow the instructions.
If this is your first day and you're making your first post, you haven't spent enough time reading.
