A bit of a guess here, but I remember reading somewhere that v1.6 xboxen do not work the same with respect to fanctl/temperatures, when compared with those models that came before.

Not 100% sure what the difference are. Perhaps v1.6 xbox doesn't report the temperature?

Anybody care to confirm?

you are quite correct, M$ ripped the temp sensing bit out of 1.6's ->

Then why is it visible on my Xbox 1.6 from within other Xbox-apps like the dashboards..?!
I think it's just because they used a different chip (Xcalibur) in these latest types.

I think some dashboards report temperatures for

1) Motherboard
2) CPU
3) Hard disks

Of course, not all HD's have temperature sensing abilities.

Not sure whether a v1.6 xbox can do 3), but perhaps that's what you've seen?

What I see is the temperature of both CPU and MB in my UnleashX-dashboard. It is included in most (but not all) of the skins for UX.
When I start up my Xbox it shows a temp. of 43°C which steadily increases to app. 55°C (depending on load, etc.).

XBMC shows the HDD-temp as being 31°C. Not sure if that's accurate though, because even the CPU-temp is always 61.04°C in that application...

Yes, that is where I've seen them too. Of course, if v1.6 boxes truly don't have temperature sensors (and I've read in more that one place that they don't), perhaps temps are being estimated?

On the other hand perhaps you are mistaken and your xbox is an earlier revision that you think?

So I guess we still don't have the real answer...

With a manufacturing-date of April 28th 2005 in China? I'm pretty much sure that it's a v1.6 Xbox! :D

On v1.6 boxes software which tries to read the temperature will get totally bogus results. Ive heard of people saying the temperature sticks at 255C, or 64C... trust me, there are no sensors in a v1.6 box and as such xboxtemp will only report "??". Sorry!

It's me again... SORRY if it looks like I'm trolling and it's not that I don't believe what I read, but for XMBC I just found this:

More confusion...

Then I guess there is a different way to access the temperature which I dont know about and no one at xbox-linux knows about. Sorry.

Haha, they just multiply a bogus result by 0.8 to make it look correct?
