Connecting to the Internet

Post by Jeff Beezy »

New to gentoo but been using linux for a few years.

I installed Gentoox pro without a hitch, gave the xbox a static IP and can ssh into the box no problem, but I cant get it to access any outside webpages. Emerge wont work because of lack of connection and ping comes back with an unknown host response. I can ping internal ip addresses (my other computers) though

In the /etc/resolv.conf i set at first to:
nameserver 65.24.7.10
nameserver 65.24.7.11

that didnt work so i copied the resolv.conf from my laptop onto the xbox which reads:
domain indy.rr.com
search indy.rr.com
nameserver 65.24.7.10
nameserver 65.24.7.11

still no luck so a buddy told me to try:
nameserver 192.168.1.1 (local host ip)

pinging google now comes back with a connect: Network is unreachable.

Any help is much appreciated
