Installing MCE as native on a clean disk

Post by murphydog »

Hi,

I have a mod chipped xbox, currently running xbmc, I want to run MCE instead, so I bought a 160gb hard drive.

I tried following the install guide, but the guide seems to differ from what actually happens.

I can boot up MCE, and then it just boots, no option for Stardust. If I use the DVD remote during boot, two icons come up at the bottom of the screen allowing me to select either 'CD' or 'Advanced' but, I cannot actually select them (ie: I can hightlight one or the other, but not actually select them) when I do this, nothing happens.

If I let it boot, it gives me
'Preparing xbox:
Unmounting filesystems [ok]
Formating filesystems [ok]
Mounting filesystems
An error occured, halting
[Error remounting E partition as read/write]

And then it shuts down.

The disk is straight out of the box. I've tried with another disk as well, and also nothing. I don't want to use the original xbox disk, because I want to be able to revert back to that if need be.

Any pointers?

Regards

I guess you'll need to format it using "other" tools first ;)

Thanks,

I managed to install another OS obtained from elsewhere onto the disk, which formated it to FATX.

The I installed Home v6 native, which worked fine.

Thanks
