startkde: Cannot Display ' '

Post by dunebug »

Please excuse me if I'm typing in the wrong command; I'm new to linux.

I installed Gentoox and I logged in as root. I wanted to start the gui so i typed startkde. Startkde returned a message that said: unable to open display "". After that, KDE will not start.

Can anybody help me fix this? I found a similar problem in the forums, but that person was logging in from SSH or something. I'm logging in using the keyboard attached to the xbox; no ssh or any other external connection.

I've also read that xfce is a better gui anyway, so I'll try to run that later this evening.

Thanks

I reinstalled Gentoox. I think I mentioned that in another post. Anyway it works now. I suppose 'startkde' must not be the intended program to start kde. I set the thing to start automatically and it does.

Problem fixed.
