how do i install software?

A place to ask all newbie questions and not get flamed, though you will get beaten down if you post a newbieish question outside of these walls.

how do i install software?

I installed gentoox and i downloaded the limewire setup for linux. I want to run it and the faq said just login as root and type "emerge" and then the software name. It does not tell you where you type that. and where am i supposed to have the setup file on a disk?

PLEASE HELP

well you dont need to download any installation packages for gentoo or gentoox, thanks to portage XD...just go to a console and type "emerge -s limewire" with out the quotes and it will search for limewire....then find the thing u need and type "emerge limewire" if thats the name of the package. then it will install nicely....my problem is i cant find the executable afterwards :-p...but im sure its not that hard
