FTP setup

Post by thecrackerjack »

Hello I feel like a hudge Knob asking/sharing this

I have taking an entry level Linux class last year with my program at school (compture eng.) but for the life of me I can't figure out proftpd

Goal: to set up a user User1 Pass 1234 (for example) i need it to read into /mnt/fatx/f/ read only

i have spent hours looking on the net and talking to people at the college nobody seems to be any good at this stuff.

i can get server connection and messages saying i'm denied, i can also get gentoox user to connect but it puts me in its home dir, i tried to change that and ftp freaked out

i made a user and put it into the group ftp, again couldn't get it to work.

if anyone know of any doc's/pages that could offer help for this issue please let me know, thank you THANK YOU!

checkout this page

viewtopic.php?t=2824&highlight=proftpd

and Gentoo-wiki

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ProFTPD

and the search button

search.php for terms including proftp and proftpd

typically with proftpd users are locked into their home directory, but checkout the manuals/tuts above and proftp's website for more info
