Blank screen after upgrading to kernel 2.6

Blank screen after upgrading to kernel 2.6

I have installed Gentoox Home 3.2 and then successfully run magic after reading through posts on this forum. I now have kernel 2.6 installed :D . I am running on a native f: partition.

My problem is that when I boot just after the Gentoox loader screen, the screen goes compltely blank (i.e. no kernel init info). The system is still loading because I can see the HDD LED light flashing and eventually X starts and I get normal video output again. If I try to switch to virtual consoles (CTRL-ALT-1 etc) they are also blank.

I have rerun xbvset and set to Composite,640x480,PAL

I have a v1.4 XBOX with Focus video. Any ideas???

I have just looked at the linuxboot.cfg file on e: and noticed the append line had ....video=xboxfb:640x480..., I know this was different than before and changed it back to ...video=640x480... and hey presto it now works. IS THIS NORMAL???
