How to set access so you can ftp files from pc w/permission?

Certain directories i can't send files over from pc without a Permission Denied message. How can i change permission for full priveledges? I'm not concerns with high security at all, as i am the only user using my xbox, and don't have it running when not using it. Personally i wouldn't have a problem always using Gentoox as a root user myself. BUt at the least, have it setup to have full read/write accress to ALL folders when i ftp.
I searched and found one guide on xbox-scene.com site , and tried it, but it still doesn't give access to certain folders still. Not sure what i missed, looked all through the control panels Samba options, and tried different things (changing them back after, when i learned it didn't work.)
