Some trouble installing Home Ed.

Post by frontsidesmith88 »

Ok, to start out, sorry if this is an easy question, but ive read the manual/searched but havent found anything

I have 1.4 xbox chipped with xenium ice solderless and running evox with m7 bios. I have the stock hdd (with plenty of room, just a few emulators/games). My goal here is to be able to launch gentoox from my evox dashboard.

I unpacked and FTP'd the contents of distro.rar to E: on my xbox
so now I have

gentooxx.xbe
initrd.gz
linuxboot.cfg
rootfs
sparkle
sprkrd.gz
swap
vmlinuz

along with all the normal folders

from this point, I made a launch item in my evox.ini.

From there I rebooted, got into evox and launched gentooxx.xbe. Now I see the loading screen (the one with the blue background). The front LED lights start going crazy (flashing green, red, orange) and it hangs.

I dont have a keyboard hooked up, and I'm just using the xbox controller if that matters

Any ideas on whats going on?

Unplug everything from your controllers ports (even your controllers).

Ok, so I have to use the controller to select it on the evox menu, but then right after I selected it, i took the controller out...but the same thing happened. So do I need to make it so that it automatically selects it and a controller cannot be plugged in at anytime, even before i run gentoox install?

Thanks for your help so far

Ok, thanks. Any other ideas? I get the same thing no matter what I try.

Does the front LED flashing red/green/orange/green mean anything in particular?

btw, i have been searching, and tried a few things but to no avail so far

make sure your time is set correctly in your msdashboard or else the network may hang when its initializing.

Ok, I deleted everything I had on \E\ and put in the disc i burned. Now it says insert Stardust. But isnt that what I just put it? I burned the image stardust.iso, and when that loads up, it says insert stardust?

I'm getting closer tho :D

Thanks for all the help so far

When it asks for stardust you just stick the disk back in.

Linux takes quite a while to load off the disk, especially if you have one of the Thompson drives (even with good DVD media) - in which case you should also look on xbox-scene.org to find some info on tuning the laser (or get someone who knows how to adjust the pot to do it)

hope this helps some...

I got it!

hehe, so I downloaded ver 3.2 last night and today after school I burned it on a Fujifilm DVD (was using memorex cd-rw before) and it loaded up just fine. Its so easy, and I'm almost done..

P.S. shallax owns me :D :D
