mythtv / mythtvfrontend/ emerge failure

Hi all,
I am on frustrated newbie. I want mythtv and/or mythfrontend on my xbox. I start to emerge. It runs for a day and a half and gets an error and fails.

1.Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong?

2. Can Mythtv run on Xbox or just mythfrontend?

3. Can Mythtv be compliled elsewhere and put on the xbox?

Was this on home or pro?

Mythtv should be able to run? not sure, never tried myself

Well it could.. but you should do it on your xbox, youll get the best results then

Just finished emerging mythtv, sucessfully I think, but here is real dumb question.

NOW WHAT??? How do I start the executable. emerge says that it is done and ran the md5 checksum.

Help a real newbie out....

newbie.. .one of the first things (i do as a newbie) is read a lot of manuals...

I would think you need to setup different stuff and go about based on what you want.

Hi mrmaggie, I had almost the same problem when I emerge mythtv. The emerge failed like yours what did you do to get a successful emerge? can advise?

I saw a post about this similar thing on gentoo.

There should be something missing in the steps of the document, or you should have missed something or a wrong parameter. I would hope to find more results on the gentoo forums too.

Maybe after work I will try to find them for you...

have you tried doing an emerge sync

Hi, I have read some thread in the forums.gentoo.org regarding the mythtv installation. Here's what I did as recommended in one of the thread.

1) type emerge sync

1) Edit /etc/make.conf so that the USE variavle looks like this.
USE='mysql qt -alsa'

1) type emerge mySQL (not sure if this is necessary but the prereq are
necessary)

1) type emerge qt ( this takes forever. at least 5 hours)

1) edit /usr/portage/media-tv/mythtv/{need to get the filename} and
comment out xmltv prerequisit.

1) type emerge mythtv.

The final emerge mythtv failed after compiling 25 hours. anyone has any success installation procedure to advise
