Problem with FTP install.

Post by sendas4 »

I followed the FTP install guide that comes with the Gentoox Pro rar file.
I dont have enough space on my E drive so i put the files in the root of F.
Everytime i try to launch linux i get a gentoox screen and it quickly says Enter stardust cd.
I followed the instruction to the T. Am i just not able to do this on F? Has anyone seen this before?

The configuration has to be changed to run from F. You have two options
1. install from CD
2. install to E and run magic f-drive

both methods require you to temporarily have enough space on E (about 4GB)
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

I'd guess it would be a good idea to add this bit of information to the ftp install guide ?
I just searched myself silly to find this bit of information :)

magic f-drive has now been moved to resctoox so you have to install over ftp then download resctoox and run that

Thanks for that.

In the mean time I've learned (or at least think I have :) that;
1) MCE is not an application that runs under Gentoox but is a seperate installation (that can be done along side Gentoox).
2) An MCE installation requires a so called native install.

So my idea to have Gentoox's MCE (with MythTV as a front-end to a MythTV back-end on a server in my 'server-park :) run along side my other Xbox apps and games seems not possible :(

Thanks.

That's what I was afraid of :)
I'm totally new to (installing) linux like OS's, so the idea of Gentoox enabling me a simple install and get MythTV installed at the same time really appealed to me.

But I also like playing games on the box, so a native install is out.
Guess I will have to invest some time in the learning curve :)

I just thought I'd set something straight, in case others read this and would get the impression that there is any kind of learning curve when it comes to installing Gentoox;

There isn't a learning curve when it comes to installing Gentoox!
It's about as easy as 1, 2, 3

1) Download Home, Pro or MCE
2) Burn it to a good quality media that is known to work in your xbox
3) Place DVD in XBox and boot

That _really_ is all there is to it.
Depending on the changes you have or haven't made to your Xbox you may need to make a couple of choices along the way, but that's about it.
