That would only be the case if you were going to bypass nkpatcher and load Gentoox directly from the fonts. The nkpatcher I sent you is already signed so it should work.

Can you list the files and folders in your C drive?

List the contents of the SID and FONTS folders. The file you need to replace will probably be in there.

Looks like it's using a bios loader. Try replacing the bios.xbe in the SID folder with nkpatcher. Don't forget to rename the nkpatcher xbe file to bios.xbe.

Just a quick follow up Trevante if I may....for my understanding.

Now things are great cos I'm booting directly into gentoox (just what I wanted). BUT I've lost my FTP safety net (of course I new this would happen and its ok)...ie used to go BOOT-> DASH (with ftp) -> CLICK CONTROLLER MENU OPTION -> GENTOOX. Now just BOOT -> GENTOOX.

Going around the houses a little, but my question is just, can I edit my fatx C files like this....?

Code: Select all

bsp root # mount /mnt/fatx/c/
bsp root # cd /mnt/fatx/c/
bsp c # cd SID
bsp SID # ls
bios.xbe bios.xbe.old boot.cfg closed.bin open.bin
bsp SID #
I can then just flip the bios.xbe for bios.xbe.old from within gentoox (with "mv bios.xbe.old bios.xbe")?

Just for future reference as I am considering a rebuild soon.

EDIT : I presume this of course is a yes..just want to be sure u can write to fatx with no problems like this.

You can still run your dashboard off a CD. Since you're using nkpatcher to load gentoox (and not directly loading gentoox from the fonts), you can still run stuff off a CD, as long as the CD is in the drive when you turn on the Xbox.

Or if you like, I could put together a small package of files that will allow you to boot Gentoox with the DVD drive closed, and your alternative dashboard when the DVD drive is open.

Those two solutions are a bit easier than using gentoox to manage your fatx files.

And yes, switching those two files should work just fine.
