Question about new *romwell with Sparkle integration

Post by drsmooth »

I'm trying to figure out:
+ Copy Xromwell.xbe to E:\gentooxx.xbe (/mnt/fatx/e/gentooxx.xbe), overwriting an existing
file if necessary.

+ Copy 'sprkrd.gz' to E:\sprkrd.gz (/mnt/fatx/e/sprkrd.gz)

+ Copy 'sparkle' to E:\sparkle (/mnt/fatx/e/sparkle)

+ Copy 'linuxboot.cfg' to E:\linuxboot.cfg (/mnt/fatx/e/linuxboot.cfg).

Obviously, check that linuxboot.cfg is correct for your configuration before rebooting!
If you don't want to mess with linuxboot.cfg by hand, run magic and let xbvset do it for
you.
I flashed the Cromwell bios onto my modchip. Now do I just ftp the files over or is there somewhere I type out: e:\sprkrd.gz (/mnt/fatx/e/sprkrd.gz)

Thanks.

I copied the files over to the E drive and tried to run the new Cromwell bios but received this error:
BootldeWriteData timeout or error from BootldeWaitNotBusy ret 1
0: FAILED to unlock drive, security: 0007

FAILED to unlock drive, sec: 0007; Version=11, EEPROM:

then there is more.

What exactly did I do wrong?

Thanks

Similar Results...

When I load the new Cromwell Bios I see:

BooddeWriteData timeout or error from BooddeWaitNotBusy ret 1
_BooddeWriteData timeout or error from BooddeWaitNotBusy ret 1
0: FAILED to unlock drive, security: 0107

FAILED to unlock drive, sec 0107; Version=11, EEPROM:
(and a bunch of code here)
Corrupted key:
(a bunch of code here)
ide error 04...

Then it opens the DVD drive and says "Insert Stardust and close the drive,"

That could be Bootlde, not Boodde, my eyes aren't what they used to be and either is my TV :-)

It looks like it will run from the old Gentoox BIOS, though, just without an option to run Sparkle on the main menu.

I have an F drive installation, btw. Ran Magic for about five hours this morning.

Work Around

OK, so I unlocked my HDD using the SmartXX Config tool and it booted the new Cromwell.

I see another (new) icon that looks like a skeleton, in addition to the X-Box and DVD icon, but it's grayed out. I suppose it's only activated if the X-Box needs Sparkle to be run?

Interesting.

Locked the HDD again, same error.

So it looks like you can only run this BIOS if your HDD is unlocked.

Thanks for the info. I unlocked my HDD and the bios booted up just fine.
