Magic F-Drive

Post by Eventide » Mon Apr 05, 2004 2:36 am

I've been trying to setup gentoox on my 1.4 xbox with focus chip  , and wanted to run magic f-drive before I did anything else, so I ran it through SSH. The FAQ says, "follow the onscreen instructions," but there weren't any, and after a few minutes I lost my SSH connection. Is this normal? If it is, how long will this take?

Also, I connect to the internet using dialup. My provider automatically disconnects me every 5 hours. Will this be a problem when using magic to update gentoox? If so, what else can I do to update gentoox?

just set your PC to autodial when it looses connection and allow remote devices to control the connection, that way your PC will dial every time your xbox needs to connect.

magic F drive should take about 15 minutes, if you are doing any kind of patching/updating over a ssh connection make sure it is a good link like a wired LAN or very reliable Internet connection
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

This tip might not be applicable when executing 'magic'. However, when you want to emerge packages and don't want to/can't keep an internet connection open during compiling, try:

Code: Select all

emerge --fetchonly packagename
This fetches all sources needed for compiling the package. Now you can unplug/log off internet and:

Code: Select all

emerge packagename
