Post by lancer3x »

is it possible to install, for example opera for linux, from a cdrw? or download it with mozilla and install it from getooxx?, i was reading from the Faqs that you can you use emerge and the name of the software, but i couldn´t find any more info about it.

thanks

it's as easy as that just type "emerge opera" and gentoox will download the source code and compile opera optimized for running on a pentium III celeron processor

Nobspangle i did that on sunday with mozilla in order to upgrade vers. 1.4 to 1.6, it started at 1pm and still 9pm my xbox was working with that, so i stopped the process, i was afraid of too much internal heat, well i guess that i´ll stay with the current softwares.

Hmm, I leave my Xbox running 24/7, should I reconsider?

the current version of fanctl won't let your box overheat, it will keep increasing the fan speed up to a very noisy 100% to keep it down, and if it ever goes over 70°C it will shut down.

my XBOX also runs round the clock, and never had any problems at all ( that I'm aware of ).

I surf the web, download, play internet games ( Yahoo ), then shut down and go play CounterStrike Project Gotham Racing 2, or Halo on XBOX CONNECT ( XBOX LIVE till I hit the wrong button and got myself banned, havnt fixed that yet, but thats another story lol ), then exit the game pop in a movie and watch a movie ( Samsung Drive rocks!) .

My XBOX is a frigging workhorse :)
