Hi all
I am a complete newbie to linux but would like to run my web server from my xbox. I am trying to add apache webserver to gentoox but when try to by opening a console changeing user to root and typing "emerge apache" i always get the following message "no profile directory: system mode unavailable"

please help

Oh, man! I forgot how to solve this one. It might be to try etc-update (see tutorial).

Trogdor isn't serious by the way, he means you should be able to find out for yourself. Search the forum for "no profile directory" and you will see what to do

Actually, I am serious. I haven't been using gentoox for a while (been studying for exams), and I know I have encountered this problem before, and that I've solved it. I just forgot how to do it!

hihihi, got that error too today after reinstalling Gentoox (I screwed it up after installing Bochs running Win98, installing wine, installing newest ebuild of wine over the already installed version of wine, which was a very bad idea ) and when you get that error, I guess you didn't quite follow the tutorial You shouldn't get any problem if you follow the steps, in the right order ofcourse
