startx fails
startx fails
I have installed Gentoox Pro Linux, and updatet it with all the available patches. The problem is to get X to start. I have tried xbvset and all the different modes one by one with no luck.
I have an v1.3 modded XBox (flashed original bios with executer2).

as root
Code: Select all
cd /etc/X11
rm -rf XF86Config
wget http://gentoox.shallax.com/patch-files/XF86Config
su - gentoox
startx
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?
Thank you for your fast response.
It did not work for me, even with the XF86Config from gentoox.shallax.com
I did manage to get up an stable X (cursor) thoug when starting Xserver with the X command.
Are there something i'm missing here?
Thank you again, i realy would like to get this up an running.

as a last resort you could try
magic fix xfree && magic
but this will recompile and reinstall xfree
****edit sorry just spotted a mistake****

I am now getting this same problem when trying to start x. Clean install of the home version, I ran magic, then I played around with xbvset to get it right on my TV screen. then tried to startx and got the error listed above.
I have tried the emerge sync && emerge gdm and it went thru no problems.
and I am doing all this from putty
after going thru all this, I then went and check what was on my TV screen, followed the instruction (because now I can read them) and all is good.
sorry
