emerge an alsa mixer, go to packages.gentoo.org and search for one, that suits your needs (KDE, XFCE4, console etc.)
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

Update -
/dev/mixer exists - but alsamixer, or rexima cant find it..

xbox root # ls /dev/mixer
/dev/mixer
xbox root # alsamixer
No mixer elems found
xbox root # rexima
rexima: mixer has no devices!

This is so fucking wierd.
It really is the intel8x0-driver right?

Heh :)

Well anyways - is there a way around this? Like with esd or something?
I dont use X - and i dont plan to either.
Is it possible to use mp3blaster with esd?
Or better up, can i mix the sound to the lover with an esd-mixer and connect mp3blaster to it?

I also have no mixer devices but I cannot get sound on audio cd's at all! What am I doing wrong?

I have heard that the souncard is muted when you first install.

I have tried to use the 'amixer set Master 100 unmute' command but that throws up an error that it can't find the device!

Help!!

I can play .wav using aplay in the console and I get sound from vcd's in mplayer but I can't get audio cd's working in kscd or any cd player!
