HELP! I'm a semi-newbie to linux and messed up .xinitrc

Post by DracFlamloc »

[EDIT] Problem solved. nothing to see here, you may move on =)

I've got a problem. I edited my .initrc file to start icewm, BUT I stupidly forgot to install icewm first. Now it gets to starting X at the bootup, then goes back to the Xbox login prompt. The problem here is that it essentially froze. The cursor still blinks but my usb keyboard and the controller aren't sending input. Is there any way to stop it from loading X windows on the start via a keypress or something?

I made a backup of my old .xinitrc file so if I can get back to the basic shell I can fix it and *hopefully* get icewm running right.

By the way I also tried going to the java-based VNC client but its just stuck with the X cursor and I tried Ctrl-Alt-F1 but it didn't switch me to the console.

Thanks a bunch in advance for anyone who takes the time to read this.
