XPad in home 3.0

Does anyone else still have trouble with the xpad not being recognised on boot up, this was supposed to be fixed with the new cromwell but it's still giving me a headache, I have had to re-install 5 times already.

I am running gentoox on a pal v1.1 xbox, X2pro, x2 4977,120 gig hard disk with gentoox installed on my f partition booting from the cd.

Any ideas
