Right..
I was installing Gentoox Pro natively and when I did "emerge sync" on putty I thought it died so I did a "ctrl+c" and then tried a "emerge sync" again then it failed.. and it failes ever since :(

Is this a known problem? Sulution anyone? :D

Ahh, I've seen the "it failed" message many times. All you have to do is apply the "fix", overlay it with the "patch" and compile the "solution" and you'll have a working system again.

Seriously though... asking for a solution without posting the details of your failure will rarely get you far =)

Post the error messages you're getting and maybe someone will have a better answer for you =)

D'oh  I realy need to get some sleep

It fails with an "Segmentation fault"

After a couple of times it eventualy goes thrue with the emerge but in the middle of the progress it fails with an segmentation fault too.

Is there any output from it before it seg faults? Just the fact that it seg faults doesn't really help =/

nope, it just says "segmentation fault"

Like you said, this doesn's help much

The only thing that's for sure is that I cancelled it with a ctrl+c

I don't need to know it right now orso, but it's nice to know for when my server is up and running..

Are you looking at a console window or through SSH?

There's a known issue with copying over the rootfs when doing a manual install. Something buggy I think with the FATX drivers in the newest releases. During copying, it'll crash, but you'll only see the dump on the actual screen, not via SSH.

If that happened during copying, you'll have to delete whatever was half-copied and try again. It ended up taking me quite a few tries and is described in more detail in a couple other threads here.

If you had an incomplete install, that might explain the issues doing an emerge sync..

Have a look at the other threads here regarding the install, see if that applies and maybe reinstall if you had issues the previous time. Connect a TV if you can, as well, to see that's how it's crashing.

if you have internet access, download a portage overly from one of the many mirrors, details on how to do this can be found in the gentoo manual (see http://www.gentoo.org)

I did an full install again (without any errors), xbox was up and running, now I try to emerge, and it bombs me with segfaults again.
This is on a 1.6 xbox, I have a 1.5 installed working perfectly, I'm now running the hdd from the 1.5 on my 1.6 box.. if this works perfectly it is higly possible that it is the hdd

This is a known issue and nothing to do with your HDD. After crashing during copying, did you wipe clean the partially copied parts and recopy everything (many people including myself had to do this many times, each time copying a bit more before it finally succeeded). If you had the seg fault and left some partially copied stuff or didn't restart the copy properly, then it might explain wierd behaviour.

Putting the 1.5's HDD in there doesn't prove anything, as it could as easily be the install, not the HDD itself, and you're replacing them both at once.
