External USB DVD drive support?

I want to install my xbox into my car and use it for MP3, DVD and OBDII. Anyway for my setup I want to have a enternal USB DVD drive in my dash while the xbox is under the seat of the car. Does Gentoox have usb drive support? If so how do I mount the media? I've check the kern.log and there seems to be a lot of problems with the HDB device (DVD Drive in xbox).
Think it's the usb and internal drives fighting eachother?hdb: attached ide-cdrom driver.
