And another one, unfortunately...
I ran magic on my 2.1 installation to drag it up to v3, now it is hanging when attempting to do the alsa 091 update. I was really looking forward to playing with the new front end tonight too
I get an "error in server response" when it is attempting to download the tar file, it logs in okay and does the cwd, then after several minutes of trying gets the error.
I've got a UK xbox if that is in any way significant.
FWIW this is the first problem I've had - put quite simply Gentoox is a work of pure genius, my xbox will love you forever Shallax.

Maybe something wrong with alsa ftp server? I see your post is a few days old. Did you try retrieving the file with for ex wget?
Code: Select all

Any reason not to use the latest alsa release (0.9.?
Has anyone tried using dolby digital with gentooxx?

ShALLaX,
I hate to be a me to but I get the same problem when I run magic. The alsa driver fail to down load. I get the following error:
--17:24:00-- ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/a ... .1.tar.bz2
(try: 2) => `alsa-driver-0.9.1.tar.bz2'

Invalid PORT.
Retrying.
If I open a web brower (on a differnt machine on my lan) and inter the ftp line that is in the error messsage, the alsa driver downloads with no problem.
I have been fighting this problem for a couple of days. First I was using a old vertion 1 home instalation and decided to up grade my kernel. I got this error. Next I downloaded and installed the latist Pro version. I got the same error when I ran magic. So tonight I got the latist Home version 3 and installed that one. And I still get the same error.

have you tried logging on to the ftp server from your xbox using the ftp client. Port errors are usually to do with bad NAT or incorrect IP setup.
when the ftp client issues the port command it is in the form
The first four x's are replaced by your IP address, the problem occurs when this IP address does not match your IP address on the Internet.
e.g you access the ftp from a machine on your network with local IP 192.168.0.27
The ftp server see your address as your Internet IP say 213.52.12.27 when your ftp client sends the port command it will be something likeThe ftp server looks at this port command excpecting it to be 213,52,12,27,13,255 and returns an invalid port error.
You could download the file manually but you will need to edit the script as it does not check for the file. The sript is here http://gentoox.shallax.com/b0x/alsa2.b0x

If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?
nobspangle,
Thank you for the suggestion on how to get around the problem with the alsa download. I will modifiy the script and install tonigh.
Do you have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot my "bad NAT or incorrect IP setup". I have been running my lan for the last year behind a Redhat 8 iptables NAT firewall. I have not had any other problems.
