Alsa dmix mythtv

Post by bigm8 »

Installed gentoox pro, got mplayer and mythtv .19 installed. I have regular audio hooked up, (not digital output just plain stereo). How can I configure .asoundrc and mythtv to use a software volume control (since hardware mixer is missing/inoperative). Should I attempt to configure JACK? Have tried various combos of .asoundrc and mythtv output device/mixer device. Ultimately dmix is very evil.

Could use some help on this one, thanks.

from emerge --info

USE="x86 X alsa apm avi berkdb crypt dvd dvdread encode fortran frontendonly gdbm gif gpm imlib jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod mjpeg mmx mp3 mpeg mysql mythtv nls ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam perl png python qt quicktime readline rtc sse ssl tcpd theora type1-fonts usb vcd vorbis win32codecs xml xv zlib elibc_glibc kernel_linux userland_GNU"

any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Hi!

I had a similar problem one month ago and have spent a lot of time in its solution. As I stumbled upon this post, probably others will, so I'll post the link to a howto I wrote:

I hope this helps someone...
