Everyone else get choppy sound in Realplayer10 ?

Post by guiddruid »

installed gentoox home 3.2 yesterday, downloaded realplayer10 via the link on bbc radio4 website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/audiohelp_install.shtml), copied across the plug-ins into the firefox plugins directory.

I can now listen to old Radio4 programs in the lounge (the misses is very pleased) but the audio sounds 'choppy' to me. Like realaudio used to sound on a crappy dialup... badly spliced-together every few seconds.
I am connected via an ADSL router over a good 512kbit link, the radio4 bandwith requirements are not exactly stellar, and I didn't see any missed packets when I brought up the realplayer console thing.

It this just a "you get that with realplayer on xbox linux" ? I've tried increasing the buffer time from 10 seconds to 15, but that just made the controls more laggy.
Its also nowhere near as smooth playing .rm videos (of family guy) as mplayer is...
Is there a better (older?) version of realplayer I should try?

thanks,
simon
